ITANAGAR, Jan 5: Arunachal Pradesh school karate team bagged six medals, including two silver and four bronze medals, on the first day of the 59th National School Game being held at Chetrasal Studium Delhi yesterday.
Minam Tekseng and Johny Mangkiya won a silver medal each in individual kumite in below 56 kg and below 76kg respectively in girls under 19 years category while Goda Asha and Tap Mania won a bronze medal each in below 44 kg and below 56 kg respectively in girls under 17 years category.

ALSU urges APPSC to declare results of ‘rejected candidates’
ITANAGAR, Jan 5: Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) today urged Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to declare APPSC 2013 Preliminary Examination results of rejected candidates.
Following the High Court direction, the APPSC had allowed the ‘rejected candidates’ to appear in the preliminary examination. However, the Commission is yet to declare the result, ALSU said in a release.
Further, the legal tussle between the Commission and petitioners has demoralized other qualified aspirants, the release said and appealed to the Commission to allow the qualified candidates to sit in the Main examinations.
AAPWU meet held
ITANAGAR, Jan 5: The general meeting of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) East Kameng District Unit and West Kameng District Unit was convened at Seijosa under the Chairmanship of John Brah, Registering Officer, West Kameng District, on January 2 last.
During the meeting, members resolved to constitute a Block Unit for Seijosa ADC Headquarters to help out the needy and workers who are not getting various benefits of Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
The union members appealed to the Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board to conduct awareness campaign in the area to enable the workers of area to avail the benefits provided by the Board.
Further, the members lauded the Board chairman Jalley Sonam his all out effort to help out the workers of state in providing various benefits.

ATA team beats DCA
ITANAGAR, Jan 5: Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA) Upper Subansiri district unit registered a nine wicket victory over District Cricket Association (DCA), Upper Subansiri in a T20 charity cricket match played at Bn Police ground at Daporijo yesterday.
DCA set a target of 181 run after winning the toss and opted to bat first.
ATA team chased the target successfully losing only one wicket. Loku Gumja made brilliant 93 runs from 61 deliveries with help of seven fours and three sixes. However, his partner Talar Rigia lost his wicket to Tasar Tarba without opening account. Made Singh contributed 45 runs.
Loku Gumja was declared man of the match for his unbeaten 93 run knock.
The charity match was organized by Upper Subansiri District Cricket Association (DCA) in collaboration with United Sinyik Cricket Club under the initiative of DCA president and secretary Dosh Dasi and Timpu Maying to raise fund for treatment of pitch curator Tara Mara.

said Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma while addressing

"The district is not only an important part of the state but of the country as well. The people of the country feel proud of you as you are the sentinels," the Governor said.
Emphasizing on development in the border areas, Governor said that State Government, Central Government and public have to work jointly to bring the much needed change in education and health sectors. He called upon the local youth to prepare themselves to join the second battalion of Arunachal Scouts and appealed to the public leaders and Goan Burahs to groom their children for job in the Indian Army. The Governor also urged upon the people to prepare youth for the ensuing job melas in the districts.
Stressing on proper utilization of allotted government fund, the Governor said that it is the duty of public leaders, district officials and also the general public to ensure that projects are implemented as per specification.
Later, the Governor during an interaction with District Heads of Departments was briefed on road communication, hydropower, education and Health. The Governor advised the officials to make individual contribution towards the district. He asked them to adopt at least five students and ensure that they go for higher studies from the district.
Stressing on improving the education sector in the district, Governor advised the department to develop a model to train existing teachers to be trained specifically for subjects like mathematics and science through orientation programmes. He expressed concern over the low literacy among the female population in the district.
Governor exhorted the officials, elected leaders, GBs and civil society to work towards eradication of drug abuse in the district.
On his arrival at Walong, Governor was received by local MLA and Advisor to Chief Minister Kolikho Pul. He was accorded a traditional reception by the cultural troupes, panchayat leaders, gaon burahs and public of Walong and its neighbouring villages.
Earlier, on his arrival at Kibithu, the Governor was received by Brig. Jaswant Singh, Commanding Officer of 2/8 Gurkha Regiment Col. Sanjay Kannoth, Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Duli Kamduk and SP Tumme Amo.
The Governor inspected the work on Walong Advanced Landing Ground. Project Manager of Walong ALG, Lt. Col Sushil Chowdhury briefed the Governor on the project, which is to be completed by 2015. The Governor advised the district administration to ensure that encroachment is not allowed in the project site.
Before returning to State Capital, the Governor paid homage to martyrs of 1962 war at the Saheed Smarak popularly known as 'Hut of Remembrance'. He also laid wreaths at War Memorials at Walong and Namti Plains and visited the Namti Valley, where fierce battle was fought in 1962 by the Indian forces against Chinese.
‘Sports help develop discipline, leadership quality’
PASIGHAT, Jan 05: Education Minister Bosiram Siram said that games and sports not only help one keep physically fit but also develop leadership quality, foster sense of team spirit and self discipline.
Inaugurating the renovated lawn tennis court here along with Union Minister Ninong Ering, Siram informed that the government has sanctioned Rs.10 crore for a stadium at Pasighat. He asked the executing agency to complete the work in time with quality so that sports activities can be started in the district with proper planning. Siram informed that the union as wellas the state government are committed for the upliftment of the society. He lauded the efforts put in by Union Minister Ering to bring fund for development of the society. The tennis court was repaired and renovated with MLALAD and MPLAD funds.
Speaking on the occasion, Ering appreciated the efforts put in by the East Siang District Lawn Tennis Association (ESLTA) for promotion of tennis and nurturing young talents. The Union minister lauded Minki Talom, who represented the nation in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He appealed to the association to work consistently and encourage and create awareness among the people about the sports. He assured all supports and cooperation for the development of sports.

PPA observes Bakin Pertin’s death anniversary
ITANAGAR, Jan 5: The rank and file of People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) led by its president Nikh Kamin today paid rich tribute to founder president of the party Bakin Pertin on his 18th death anniversary in the party office at Naharlagun today.
Recalling his association with Pertin, party’s Working Committee chairman Kamen Ringu advised the party cadres and workers to follow the principles of late Pertin and serve the people without expecting anything in return.
Party president Kamin informed that the 25 years visionary action plan as well as the five year election manifesto of the party will have a clear touch of the ideals and the visions of great souls like late Bakin Pertin, late Tomo Riba, late Oken Lego and late Nyari Welly.
Bakin was born in 1942 in Damroh village in present Upper Siang district and was
the founder general secretary of NEFA Student Union (AAPSU) in 1958-
He was elected to the legislative assembly in 1984 and was the leader of opposition
in 1984-
His famous quote “Arunachal is the land of khusi khusi” and “Assam the land of lahe lahe” still is the common talk and practice in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

The Commission is looking into the issue of whether to spread the elections over five phases or may be one more phase.
An estimated 80 crore voters will be eligible to vote in the coming elections after new voters have been added to the rolls, whose final revision is underway.
The Commission has already got the electoral rolls ready, except for some "health

"We already have a list of electoral rolls. We need to update it. We expect that before January end, the lists will be ready," a top EC official said. .
A total of 1.1 crore poll personnel, half of them being security forces will be deployed
for the smooth conduct of polls and to ensure that they are free and fair. Other

Chief Electoral Officers of various states are also holding separate meetings with DGPs of states for availability of state police forces for polls.
"There will be a final meeting of the Commission with the Union Home Secretary for securing the availability of security forces for poll duty," the sources said.
Poll officials said the database of the civilian staff to be deployed for conducting polls is also being prepared and at least 5.5 million civilian staff would be required.
The list of central government employees to be deployed for poll duty as micro observers in sensitive polling stations is also being prepared and final touches are being given to the list.
The EC is also working on finalising the polling stations for elections. At least 8 lakh polling stations are to be set up for polling across the country.

The last Lok Sabha polls were held in five phases from April 16 to May 13 and the counting of votes was done on May 16, 2009. The announcement for the last Lok sabha polls was done on March 2, 2009.
During the 2009 polls, there were 714 million voters against 671 million voters in 2004 Lok Sabha polls.

The EC sources said the Commission has not conducted any election in a single go in one phase after 1971 as the size of the electorate in the world's largest democracy has grown considerably over the years.
The officials also said that the entire poll process takes around three months time. But there is a limit of six weeks time from the announcement of the schedule to the first date of poll in view of the Supreme Court direction that the model code of conduct inhibiting government decisions cannot be an unduly long period.
They said the Commission has to give around two weeks' time for government formation before the term of the Lok Sabha or a state assembly expires.In the states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim, which will have assembly polls along with the Lok Sabha polls, the Commission will place two EVMs alongside for voters to vote in both the elections.
The Election Commission has not got a request from any other state for early elections so far though there is speculation that Haryana may opt for early polls.

Appreciable effort
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to highlight the incredible endeavor orchestrated by Setong Sena, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Dairy development & vety. by implementing MLALADS in a optimistic way for the development of his people and constituency. His honest effort has given the unemployed youths of our constituency a ray of hope to live, by employing them through the MLALADS fund. Mostly the young girls who had given up their hope for further studies after passing class X & XII, due to household problems are being employed under MLALADS at their own village primary schools, as a teacher. It is a mark of an admirable effort initiated by our local MLA. The steps which he has taken was never been highlighted or appreciated by the populace, but what I feel is that such positive steps taken by our MLA have made him one of the faithful & longest serving political leader of our constituency, with optimistic vision for the development.
Moreover, many girls are also serving as a helper in the Primary Health Centre and
Community Health Centre due to proper utilization of the MLALADS fund, which too
is a mark of astonishing effort for the service of his dearly people. Furthermore,
to focus on agriculture he has introduced Krishi Vigyan Kendra (GoI) at Jairampur.
